There are a huge amount of specialist facilities available at Southampton. Some examples include a wind tunnel complex for aerodynamics project work, a nanofabrication center and health science skills labs. Many of Southampton’s facilities are used in industry and play an important role in some of the latest research. Southampton also has five different libraries, which contain around three million books and journals. More than 1,700 networked computers are available for student use, and there are spaces for both focused and informal study. Many student reviewers described the University's facilities as "modern", praised the range on offer and were very complimentary about the sports facilities in particular.

How scholarship is awarded

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit. The criteria for scholarship awards are available on the appropriate International Merit Scholarships webpages for undergraduate and postgraduate (master’s) courses. The equivalency of international qualifications will be determined by the University’s standard admissions criteria, and are available on request from the relevant Admission team. All decisions are final. For country?specific scholarships, eligibility will be determined by your nationality and qualification as indicated in your University of Southampton application, supported by your passport and your academic transcript.You can only be in receipt of one Southampton International Merit Scholarship. If you meet the eligibility criteria for more than one scholarship, you will be awarded the scholarship of higher value.

Undergraduate Merit Scholarships

Each year we offer a range of subject scholarships to international undergraduate students. They are awarded based on academic merit. You can get a maximum of £3,000, which will be deducted from your tuition fees.

The following courses are not eligible for this scholarship:

  • English language pre?sessional programmes
  • Foundation programs
  • Undergraduate programs which include a foundation year
  • Undergraduate programs in the Faculty of Medicine and the School of Health Sciences
  • Distance Learning programs
  • Programs offered at a partner institution or overseas campus

What is covered

This scholarship provides a discount of up to £3,000 on your tuition fees.

You’ll get a discount of £1,000 for each qualification (or equivalent) that you have, as shown below. The grades you need depend on which School will teach your undergraduate course.

For example, you’ll get £2,000 if you’re applying to study a course taught by the School of Chemistry you have 2 International Baccalaureate awards at grade 6

 

Postgraduate Merit Scholarships

Each year we offer a range of subject scholarships to international master’s students. They are awarded based on academic merit. You can get a maximum of £9,000, which will be deducted from your tuition fees.

This scholarship is for study across a range of subject areas. The following courses are not eligible:

  • PGCert or PGDip programs
  • Distance Learning programs
  • Programs offered at a partner institution or overseas campus

This scholarship provides a discount of up to £9,000 on your tuition fees. The amount you’ll get depends on the course you are studying and the grades you got in your undergraduate studies.

Eligibility Criteria

  • be classed as an international student
  • be paying your fees yourself
  • hold a conditional or unconditional offer from Southampton
  • be studying on an eligible course
  • meet the academic requirements
  • pay any required deposit by the date shown on your offer letter

Research

The university conducts research in most academic disciplines and is home to a number of notable research centers. Southampton has leading research centers in a number of disciplines, e.g. music, computer sciences, engineering, or management sciences, and houses world-leading research institutions in fields as varied as oceanography and web science.

Within the university, there are a number of research institutes and groups that aim to pool resources on a specific research area. Institutes or groups identified by the university of being of significant importance are marked in italics.
